The Trans Canada Trail is thrilled to announce the appointment of Mathieu Roy as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) after an extensive search for top-tier executive talent. Bringing with him over twenty years of experience and a proven track record of leadership within both national and global trail sectors, Mathieu is poised to bring a wealth of knowledge to his new role.

Mathieu, a seasoned professional engineer registered with the Order of Engineers of Quebec, co-founded and successfully managed his own environmental consulting firm prior to joining the Trans Canada Trail team in 2017. Having served in the capacity of Vice-President and Chief Trail Experience Officer, Mathieu played a pivotal role in overseeing trail operations and fostering strategic relationships with various trail groups, communities, and governmental bodies. Noteworthy is his instrumental role in negotiating and executing Trans Canada Trail’s funding agreements with the federal government via Parks Canada. His focus has consistently been on elevating and expanding the Trail, while concurrently supporting economic development and community health initiatives throughout Canada.

“This organization’s mission is deeply personal to me, and I am honoured to play a part in stewarding Canada’s national trail network,” he said. “I am excited to build on our solid foundation and to implement innovative new approaches that support a sustainable organization, a strong trail sector and an exceptional Trans Canada Trail.”

Michael Lindsay, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Trans Canada Trail, spearheaded the executive search process and conveyed unwavering confidence and enthusiasm regarding the organization’s newly appointed leadership.

“The Board is thrilled to appoint Mathieu Roy as Trans Canada Trail’s CEO. He is a true champion for the Trail and his expertise uniquely positions him to guide the organization into its next chapter,” he said. “We have full confidence that Mathieu and senior leadership will ensure a seamless transition as we continue our work to steward an incredible, nationwide network of trails. We extend our appreciation to Meghan Reddick for her leadership as Interim CEO during this critical period.”

Before Mathieu assumed the role, Meghan Reddick, Vice-President and Chief Communications & Marketing Officer at Trans Canada Trail, served as the Interim CEO. During this interim period, the organization devised a comprehensive five-year strategic plan aimed at bolstering and broadening revenue streams. This robust strategic blueprint, combined with Mathieu’s ongoing leadership, ensures that Trans Canada Trail is poised for future stability and expansion.

Mathieu will officially commence his duties as CEO on April 29, 2024.

For interviews, Mathieu is available in both English and French.
