Qatar Rail launches two new tram lines in Lusail City, aiming to boost tourism and simplify commuting, according to company executives.

The recent launch of two additional tramlines in Lusail is set to dramatically boost local tourism, particularly in and around Lusail City, according to a statement from a Qatar Rail executive.

In recent years, Lusail City has become a magnet for both domestic and international tourists due to its array of attractions, including high-end shopping centers and amusement parks. The city also serves as a prime location for luxurious residential properties, diverse retail spaces, culinary outlets, and various corporate offices.

Qatar Rail recently unveiled the Pink Line and finalized all stations on the Orange Line. Once operational, the complete tram network will link several key areas such as government buildings, residential complexes, recreational, sports venues, waterfronts, and other significant landmarks throughout Lusail City.

Ahmed al-Saleh, the senior director of the Lusail Tram Project at Qatar Rail, highlighted in a recent press briefing that the agency is focusing on increasing tram usage to boost ridership numbers.

This initiative is expected not only to enhance tourism in Lusail but also to encourage more people to consider moving to the residential areas of the city, al-Saleh noted.

Jassim al-Ansari, head of Programme Delivery at Qatar Rail, mentioned that there are ongoing plans to introduce additional tram connections, akin to those of the Metro Link, to better serve the transportation demands of residents and visitors.

He also stressed the importance of boosting ridership and encouraging the use of the tram network by people from nearby communities, particularly noting the Lusail Tram’s integration with the Doha Metro.

Ajlan Eid al-Enazi, the chief of Strategy and Business Development at Qatar Rail, emphasized the crucial roles of the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram in facilitating efficient travel. He pointed out that both networks enhance accessibility to major venues like government offices, corporate headquarters, shopping malls, eateries, and other tourist attractions.

Reflecting on the 2022 FIFA World Cup, al-Enazi remarked on the success of the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram in serving large volumes of sports enthusiasts. He assured that these networks will continue to provide swift and secure transportation for upcoming sports events in Qatar.
