New direct flight connects Australia with Palau

 

It has been reported that a new non-stop flight service is set to be launched between Australia and Palau, with the endorsement of both nations’ governments. This initiative, known as the Palau Paradise Express and to be operated by Nauru Airlines, will establish a direct link from Brisbane to Koror, Palau’s commercial hub. The inaugural flight is scheduled to occur within this month.

The announcement was made jointly by Palau President Surangel S Whipps Jr and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong. They highlighted that the introduction of this service is expected to foster new prospects for regional tourism and trade.

They expressed a shared commitment towards enhancing the Pacific region’s strength and connectivity through sustainable tourism, trade, and business relationships. Moreover, this new service is an extension of the Island Hopper flights, which currently connect Brisbane with Nauru, Tarawa, Majuro, Pohnpei, and Koror.

The operation of this route by Nauru Airlines is confirmed until October 31, after which a limited tender will be opened. This tender invites eligible Australian, Pacific, and Asian airlines to apply for the operation of the route up to October 2025.

President Whipps conveyed his gratitude towards Australia for its robust partnership and its efforts to enhance tourism and trade, which are aimed at capitalizing on government, business, and community linkages. On her part, Senator Wong emphasized that Australia and Palau share core values and are collectively committed to strengthening the Pacific. She noted that Australia has acknowledged the requests from Pacific leaders for more profound connections and facilitated movement around the region. In response, Australia is actively working to enhance access, mobility, and migration opportunities.
